Position Summary

The Cataloging and Metadata Librarian will join an energetic team of library staff who are focused on providing excellent services to an intensely academic college community. Reed students and faculty care deeply about the library both as a place and as a set of services central to their research. The Cataloging and Metadata Librarian ensures clear and seamless access to library collections and resources through the online catalog and other means of discovery. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to participate in the Orbis Cascade Alliance shared integrated library system implementation and in collaborative technical services initiatives at the consortial level. TThis is a full-time, regular position reporting to the library’s director of collection services. Minimum starting salary is $54,897. Essential Functions

Plans, organizes, and manages cataloging and metadata creation for library collections in all formats. Develops, recommends, and implements policies and procedures to promote accessibility of library collections that support the college curriculum and individual research needs of Reed’s students, faculty, and staff. Ensures support for library systems and application of information technologies as they pertain to the catalog and other means of discovery.

Minimum Qualifications

ALA-accredited master’s degree in library/information science and two years of professional library experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Working experience with library cataloging and metadata creation and library systems. Ability to motivate staff and set priorities. Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with colleagues, students, faculty, and others in a variety of situations, both at Reed and in other consortial and professional settings. Strong interest in liberal arts undergraduate education.

Desired Qualifications

Successful supervisory experience. Working experience with electronic resources management.
