Finding Media Items

The Video Collection
Reed’s video collection is housed in the Instructional Media Center, located in lower level one, room L32 of the library building.  VHS tapes, and DVDs are kept in a closed vault behind the circulation desk.  If you would like to browse the collection, ask the student worker at the desk for a tour of the vault.  You can also view the IMC Film Guide online if you're looking for suggestions.  To check out an item, give the call number or title to the IMC circulation worker, along with your Reed ID.  Most videos checkout for one week.  You can renew videos online.

Finding DVDs and videotapes
Videos are cataloged using Library of Congress call numbers.  Since these call numbers were conceived with books in mind, the classifications with regards to videorecordings have been liberally applied.  Consequently, it is not out of the ordinary to find the same title with different call numbers.  Searching for movies is as simple as putting in the title (as either a title or keyword search) and limiting it by format or collection. Call numbers will be followed by either “video” (VHS) or “DVD” depending on the format.

The Audio-Visual Equipment Collection
The IMC also lends out equipment.  Three-day equipment checkouts include - projectors, screens, speakers,DVD and computer accessories.  Equipment cannot be renewed online.  Chargers and headphones have moved to the main library circulation desk for checkout.  Camcorders and DSLRs have moved to the Visual Resources Center.

Mac Laptops
Students, staff, and faculty can checkout laptops from the IMC.  Default checkout is one day.  That can be extended as needed - email Jim Holmes.

Finding and Reserving Equipment
You can search for equipment in the catalog by doing an Advanced Search > select 'in the title' > select 'starts with' > type 'IMC' and limiting to 'Equipment' or follow our browse IMC equipment link.  Please note, you must call the IMC (503)777-7531, fill out the online form, or email Jim Holmes to reserve equipment.  It's best to reserve equipment a week ahead of time to ensure availability.
