Equipment & Resources

The Visual Resources Center (VRC) provides academic and co-curricular support for visual art research and resources to students. We are an appointment-based library resource center. Learn more about our equipment and resources available to faculty, students, and staff below.

Equipment

The equipment below is available for checkout for curricular and co-curricular use for up to 3 days. If you're faculty and you need equipment for course use, please contact reserves@reed.edu.

Anatomical Models

Check out 3D anatomical models of hands, a nose, a skull, and more. Use these reference tools to practice drawing basic anatomical shapes.

Drawing Lightpads

Check out drawing light pads to trace, sketch, or work with layered drawings. Each light pad comes with a protective case, a metal clip to hold your paper in place, and a USB cable for power.

Borrow DSLR cameras, camcorders, tripods, mics, and more. Browse the Library Catalog to view all equipment available at the vrc and book an appointment to reserve equipment.

Resources

The resources available in the VRC support visual art research and exploration for students across all disciplines at Reed. These specialized resources are accessible with guidance from VRC student staff and are available for use only within the Visual Resources Center.

Copy Stand Photo Room

Book the Copy Stand Photo Room to photograph artwork, artifacts, or large 2D or small to medium 3D works. The room is equipped with a Canon 90D camera and photography accessories, including color calibration charts, lights, and other items to support your documentation.

Scanners

Book the scanners to create a high-resolution scan of documents, drawings, digitize film, and more. The VRC has an Epson Expression 12000XL and a WideTek 24F scanner (read the details below).

Epson Expression 12000XL Scanner
Scans up to 48 frames of 35mm negatives, 30 slides, and eight frames of 4 x 5 inch transparencies. This scanner is ideal for scanning photos, documents, drawings, film slides, and 35 mm film strips.

WideTek 24F Scanner
Complies with the Federal Agencies Digital Guidelines Initiative (FADGI). This scanner is ideal for large-scale drawings and images in books.

Software

Book the dedicated guest computer equipped with Adobe Creative Cloud, Epson 2, VueScan, and SilverFast scanning software for your projects. We are the only location in the Library building that provides this software.

Risograph

Risograph Books & Zines

Vist the VRC to browse the collection of non-circulating Risograph books and zines for students to reference. Zines in the collection are made by students and creators living in Portland, Oregon. The purpose of the collection is to give students inspiration for printing techniques for assignments and personal projects.
