Glass Plate Negative

Prior to the creation of celluloid film, negative images were printed on silver salt coated glass plates. The silver salts were applied to make the glass light sensitive and able to print the photograph. The ghostly effect in this particular negative was created through a series of brief shutter cycles, effectively layering images on top of one another. This image is of a Hungarian Dance performance by Reed students.
