The Future of the Independent Grocer

The Future of the Indepdent Grocer was an economics thesis written by Hobart Benson '22 which analyzed issues facing independent grocers, such as pricing, delivery, and supply. Benson predicted that independent grocerers were in decline at the dawn of the decade, and that larger corporations held a comparative advantage over smaller, independently owned operations. He ultimately worked to estimate the likelihood of a food monopoly, held by large corporations with many stores.
