A Dining Program for Reed College

In 1970, ARA Slater, the predecessor of Aramark, proposed a dining plan for Commons. The proposal outlines the company’s plans for dining along with the costs of the plan. In the preface, ARA Slater emphasizes that "...students are human beings. Serving them in the dining hall we recognize as a tremendous responsibility. Consequently, our proposal deals not only with the vital details of food and finance, but also with intangibles of student satisfaction and student enrichment." While it is not clear whether or not this plan was ever implemented, the plan was offered at $409.86 per year for the largest plan. In 2019 dollars, that is the equivalent of $2670.17.
