War Math
The notes above detail the topic of gun corrections mathematics, which was part of a course titled War Math, or Math 13. Frank Loxley Griffin, who was the first faculty member at Reed, taught the course. He was a graduate of the University of Chicago and taught at Williams College before coming to Reed. During Griffin's time on campus from 1911 to 1952, he taught mathematics courses. In addition to teaching at Reed, he was also a well-respected mathematician who published several books and articles. After a short retirement, Griffin returned to Reed to serve as president from 1954 to 1956. Following his presidency, he served as a visiting professor at several institutions around the United States.
