The British Colonies in North America

In this map from 1777, the British Colonies in North America are displayed alongside tribal nations and colonial claims by other nations. Long before tribal nations were removed from the south by the United States government, long before the Louisiana Purchase, and long before the United States had fully established itself as a country, the map shows the data, as it was understood by some, of the time. Mapping is another form of data and data collection, though techniques and technologies look quite different today.
