Information for Alumni
Borrowing
As an alum, you can borrow books, movies, and other materials from the library. To receive a Reed library card and login to the catalog, bring a drivers license or state ID to the circulation desk. Make sure your information is updated in the Reed directory.
Alumni are not eligible to borrow equipment or request materials via Summit or Interlibrary Loan (ILL).
Computers & printing
You may use computers in the library using your Kerberos credentials. Printing is limited to current Reed students, staff, and faculty. You can print resumes and job search related materials in the Center for Life Beyond Reed in Prexy.
Theses
Thesis name change
Alumni can request a name change for their previously published thesis that has been deposited in the library. It is not necessary to specify a reason. Any reason is acceptable. The request must originate with the author, or from the executor of an estate or a legal entity employed to take action on behalf of the author.

Electronic theses archive
Alumni can access a digital collection of senior theses through the Reed College Electronic Theses Archive. Participation in the archive is voluntary and access is currently limited to the Reed community. If you would like to submit your thesis to the archive, please visit the etheses submission page.

Database, article, JSTOR, and ebook access
Alumni can access most databases, articles, and ebooks while physically on campus using your Kerberos login. When off campus, alumni have access to JSTOR journals, part of JSTOR's full text archive of scholarly content in various disciplines.

Note that our license agreements do not allow us to provide alumni access to JSTOR ebooks from off campus.
JSTOR access FAQs
What username and password do I use?
Use your Kerberos credentials (the same login and password that you use for the online directory in IRIS).
If you have not yet set up a Kerberos account, visit https://account-tools.reed.edu/claim/. You will need your Reed ID number to get started; if you do not know this number, please contact Alumni Programs.
JSTOR says I am not authorized to read an ebook?
Our license agreements do not allow us to provide alumni access to JSTOR ebooks from off-campus. Alumni can access JSTOR ebooks while on campus.
"No Email Address on Record" error?
Enter JSTOR through
https://jstor.reed.edu, instead of from the Reed catalog or database list.
I can read articles but can't download PDFs?
There is an error where after selecting the "I accept..." button to download a PDF, you end up in a never ending loop.
To download a PDF, select the "I accept..." button, then click in the URL bar and hit the enter key. (Do not hit the webpage reload button.) Then the PDF should load. This only has to be done once per session.
Every time I log in, I see a flicker of DUO authentication?
This is expected behavior. Reed now uses DUO authentication for faculty, students and staff. DUO does not apply to alumni, so the system moves past it and takes you to your login page.
I'm having some other problem...
Try the following suggestions when using JSTOR:
- Turn off any proxy servers.
- Clear your browser’s cache to ensure you're accessing the most recent webpage.
- Do not add any proxy prefixes to the URL.
- Try a different browser.
If you continue to have trouble, please contact er-problem-report@reed.edu. It is helpful to include the URL that you're trying to access, the article's information, and screenshots including the URL of the error.
